Institute of Hygiene

Institute of Hygiene was established in 1957. It’s a comprehensive institute composed of four departments and one lab, namely Labor Health & Occupational Disease, Environmental Health, Toxicology, Health Assessment and Electronic Microscope & Pathologic Morphology lab. Thereinto, the Master degree granting unit and Zhejiang key subject are set in Labor Health and Environmental Health. There are thirty-eight staffs in our Institute, fifteen ones have senior professional titles, one has doctor degree, and thirteen have master degree, while two are incumbent PH.D. student for doctor degree. In recent years, Labor Health, Environmental Health and Toxicology are admitted as main subjects. Prevention & Control Measures and Mechanism Study on Health Damage Induced by Occupational Risk Factors, Prevention & Control Measures on Organic Pollution in Water and Effects of Heavy Metal Contamination to Human Health, and also Assessment on Chemical Toxicity are main research directions. In the past ten years, over fifty grants funded by the national, provincial and ministerial foundations had been undertaken, twenty-three national standards had been made and over thirty different awards were won in scientific research.

Main studies are as below:
1) Study on occupational respiratory diseases and chemical poisoning.
2) Detection of toxicants in workplace and establishment health standards.
3) Detection of toxicants in air, water and soil and studies of their effects on human health.
4) Safety assessment on pesticide and chemical.
5) Pre-assessment and control assessment of occupational hazard construction project

Following “The 11th Five-Year Plan” in our academy, the institute will continue subjects development, talent researchers recruit and training, high-tech scientific research as main mission, and unite all departments to accomplish all scientific studies, provide scientific data to our country or government for policy establishment and provide innovative service for workers to improve their health as well.
